May she be granted beauty and yet not
Beauty to make a stranger's eye distraught,
Or hers before a looking-glass, for such,
Being made beautiful overmuch
Consider beauty a sufficient end . . .

This is a particular favourite from my favourite poet. I gave it to my daughter upon her wedding day.

It's an easy poem to love, isn't it.
Thanks for your thoughts, Julie. I like them a lot.

I hope you've also looked at my posts on June 17, "Daughters in Loud Times" and June 20, "Parenting, Especially Parents of Adult Children."

I'd value your input on those. On any of these subjects, do you know if living in Australia affects your thinking in any way? I don't see why it would -- just asking.
